STRIDE Academy takes pride in helping every student succeed. More than half of STRIDE's students are considered low-income and many at-risk students come to STRIDE after struggling in the traditional school environment. Focused on results and closing the achievement gap, STRIDE Academy uses only research-based curriculum that has demonstrated success. Your child's education is too important to leave to chance. The results are evident. STRIDE's diverse student body consistently outperforms state and national academic standards in standardized test scores and proficiency in core areas like math and reading.

Core Knowledge

STRIDE Academy teaches Core Knowledge to ensure students receive a strong foundation of the basics they need to be strong, productive citizens. STRIDE Academy is among a growing number of schools that are seeing measurable results by using the leading Core Knowledge curriculum.

The curriculum focuses on teaching building cultural literacy and progressing through a solid and specific set of knowledge each year. Core Knowledge, developed by University of Virginia Professor E. D. Hirsch and two groups of teachers, has gone from a philosophy of the need for cultural literacy to a growing phenomenon that has been widely accepted by public, private and charter schools nationwide. Learn more how this curriculum provides a solid and specific education at each grade level.

Growing Leaders

STRIDE goes beyond the basics to also teach its students to be strong leaders in the classrooms, families and communities. STRIDE integrates the Second Step leadership development and 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Stephen and Sean Covey into its curriculum. Students also complete at least two service learning projects each year.

How Can You Help Your Child in School?

Active parental involvement in a child's education is the number one factor that will determine a child's continued success. Here are some ideas how parents can be involved in student's studies:
  • Be familiar with the Core Knowledge topics being studied in the classroom and discuss them with your child. You can request a copy of the year-long plan and read books related to the topics together with your child.
  • Provide enrichment opportunities to reinforce the curriculum - trips to libraries, museums, music venues, and children's theaters.
  • Tell your child's teacher about circumstances that might affect the classroom learning experience.
  • Keep a scrapbook of schoolwork and student achievements. Let your child know how important his or her school life is to you.
